Greetings from the Chair

Hi all

I hope everyone has recovered from the first (of three!!) double ride weekends relatively unscathed. As the Organising Committee, we are here to help guide you along the way and enhance your HRFY experience. This year’s riders will have received an e-newsletter from the Fundraising Sub-Committee (FRC) with tips and tricks to get your fundraising started or to strengthen the fundraising you are already undertaking. Please take the time to read this, as it contains everything you need to elevate your fundraising. And remember, should you get stuck at any point, please reach out to your Team Captain or your FRC representative.

After this Saturday’s time trial, some of the 2021 support crew, myself, Youth Focus Chair Dean Hely and Youth Focus CEO Arthur Papakotsias will be joining you all for a casual barbecue breakfast – we can’t wait to catch up with you all!

Recently we held the 2021 HRFY Official Launch at a completely new venue, the Banquet Hall at the University Club of WA. There was an air of excitement in the room as it was the first time we had all gathered together since February this year.

We were lucky enough to have Barry McGuire perform the Welcome to Country, and for anyone who has been fortunate enough to experience Barry’s welcome before, it’s a very special experience.

We also inducted three new riders into the Hall of Fame: Cam Alder, Daryl Smith and David Corney – all worthy additions to the Hall of Fame.

The Hawaiian Ride for Youth Organising Committee and Youth Focus would like to once again congratulate this year’s Hall of Fame inductees, who have been recognised for their steadfast commitment to the Hawaiian Ride for Youth.  The Hall of Fame inductees are selected each year by the Hall of Fame Committee, comprised of Peter Trench and Phil Cousins.

Please see below a short bio on each of this year’s inductees:

Cam Alder

Cam has been involved in the Ride for many years, with 2021 will be his 9th time completing the Ride. During his years as a rider, Cam has enjoyed taking on the role of Captain for many years and also been a part of the Organising Committee as the Fundraising Representative and more recently Chair of the Rider Recruitment & Engagement Sub Committee. Congratulations, and welcome the Hall of Fame!

Daryl Smith

Daryl has been involved in the Ride for 9 years both as a rider and support crew. Daryl’s first year spent as support crew was a baptism of fire – almost literally – as he was part of the crew on the inaugural Central Route. Welcome to the Hall of Fame, Daryl!

David Corney

David will be celebrating 11 years in the Ride family in 2021. After 6 years as a rider, he thought he would take on the more challenging roles in Support Crew. David is also an honorary member of the women’s SBCC and the 2021 Event Director for Inland – welcome to the Hall of Fame Corndog!
