I’m 23 and a first-year rider with minimal cycling experience. However, I’m fortunate to have come from a sporting background in football and basketball dating back to my early childhood that will hopefully benefit me on this journey. I found out about the HRFY when a friend who had signed up for the ride through his place of work (Matador Capital) had approached me to see if I would be interested in pushing myself to my limits and helping raise funds for Youth Focus. After attending the information sessions and hearing the extraordinary work Youth Focus does for the young Western Australian community, I felt inclined to help raise funds and help them keep providing their frontline services to the youths of Western Australia.
Mental health hits very close to home for many people, including myself. I’ve witnessed firsthand the devastating impact it can have on families, friends, and communities. I have signed up for this ride to not only challenge myself and improve my mental wellbeing but to help provide awareness to the youths of today of the services out there for those who are struggling. The battle doesn’t need to be fought alone and reaching out for help is the first step.
