Ride For Youth presented to me as an opportunity to change the dial and make some changes in my life and at the same time give back to a great cause. The physical and mental wellbeing of our youth is the cornerstone for the development of our communities; Ride For Youth provides a focus on this. Every week, one child, a sibling, friend or relative under the age of 25 dies by suicide and 240 more attempt it. The ripple impact of this to people close, is significant.
With my teammates in the peloton, I will sit on my bike, pushing at the pedals for 700+ kms over 4 days in March, 2022, cycling through WA's Wheatbelt from Albany to Perth and visit high schools to engage with students on issues of youth suicide, depression, anxiety and self-harm, and play a part in removing the stigma associated with mental health.
The training is intense with a minimum of 3 mornings a week, up at 4.20am, 2 strength sessions and focusing on good nutrition (plus some Allens lollies)
I have paid personally for all expenses associated with my ride so that all funds raised with go directly to Youth Focus and will be used to provide free professional counselling services for youth in need.
I know there are so many asks of people to contribute funds to worthy causes, so any amount that you can contribute is greatly appreciated.
