When I accepted an opportunity presented to me via good mate Allan O'Grady to ride in the inaugural Hawaiian Ride for Youth in 2003, I never expected it would have such a life-long impact on me.
I learned very quickly of the great work Youth Focus was doing in our community and like many others, I wanted to contribute to enhance the services and the reach so that others could benefit from Youth Focus.
Since that first ride my family has had a long association with the event, having supported many friends in the event. I also rode in 2006 and have provided support on the ride and my wife Alison rode in 2012 and 2013.
Here we are now heading towards the 20th anniversary of this incredible charity event and I'm stoked to be joined on the ride by my son Lucas.
Over the journey the event has grown significantly, as has the number of riders in the pelotons and there has been many changes ... however one thing has remained the same - there are many amazing, positive and generous people making significant sacrifices to be a part of this wonderful event, all focussed on raising as much money and awareness as we can so that Youth Focus can continue to assist and support young people and their mental health and well-being.
I am proud and honoured to be riding again in the 20th Hawaiian Ride for Youth.
