The 2022 Hawaiian Ride for Youth will be the 16th time I pull on the Lycra and ride from Albany to Perth covering nearly 700 kilometres in 4 1/2 days.
Having been involved with this wonderful event since its second year it makes me proud to see how it has grown from a small group of riders in the early days to over 180 participating in the 2021 event.
Most importantly the purpose of the ride is to support the young people of Western Australia struggling with mental health issues.
Over the years we have seen the awareness of mental health issues go from an almost taboo subject to being in the forefront of our society on a daily basis. I like to think that in a small way the Hawaiian Ride for Youth has assisted this with our contact with schools during the ride week and our riders becoming ambassadors in the support of mental health in their wider communities.
Most importantly the ride raises much needed funds to support Youth Focus who are wonderful not for profit organisation that are supporting the Youth of WA to deal with their mental illness.
This year marks the 20th Hawaiian Ride for Youth and support of Youth Focus, it has been a remarkable partnership and I am pleased to again be involved in supporting this great organisation.
I welcome your donation to my fundraising efforts for this years ride, and thank you for your generous donation.
Much thanks also goes to my wonderful family for their ongoing support of my involvement with the ride. This ride is dedicated to my wonderful Dad, Dennis he is my greatest inspiration.
