Young Rider Taskforce Launches

Go Back

What started as a few words exchanged while on the bike after the 2022 Hawaiian Ride for Youth, where some younger riders were celebrating and swapping stories of their journey to Ride Week, resulted in the formation of the first ‘Young Rider Taskforce’.

The Taskforce works to relieve some of the stress and barriers young riders face so that more young people can get involved in this meaningful event.

The aim of the Taskforce is to get more young people engaged and involved in the HRFY community and continue to support the longevity of the Ride. These young riders, through the Taskforce, coaches, captains and fellow riders, will be supported to grow and thrive in this community. They will embark on a journey of epic proportions, achieve something great and raise funds for an essential cause, all while surrounded by supportive like-minded individuals.

There are 25 young riders participating in the 2023 Ride for Youth – the most ever – and for about two thirds of them this will be their first Ride.

The Taskforce hope to encourage and assist these young riders to have an awesome experience through removing barriers to participation, including registrations and equipment costs. The Young Rider Taskforce will raise funds to support these young people through a number of events and generous donations from HRFY Alumni and individuals.

Registrations for the 2023 Hawaiian Ride for Youth have closed; however, if you know of a young person who may be interested in participating in 2024, please encourage them to engage with the HRFY social pages to get a feel for the event and register an EOI when the time comes.
