I am back for my 4th Hawaiian Ride For Youth. It is hard to let go of the 200 km weekly riding program (?!) and that great feeling of getting fit for a very good cause. This year I am riding the Wheat Belt Route from Albany to Perth with my fellow Key Residential Team and other riders. Along our 700 km journey we will be visiting high schools to engage students on issues of youth suicide , depression, anxiety and self harm.
My inspiration comes from direct experience working in the mental health and alcohol and drug services and seeing through my work the negative impact of stigma, and mental health issues.
Plus, seeing first hand the positive and profound community engagement of young people in regional high schools with Youth Focus and Riders, where issues of youth suicide, depression, anxiety and self harm get a platform keeps me coming back.
Suicide remains the number one preventable cause of death in the under 25's .
Youth Focus gives free of charge services to young people around the State which includes face to face and online counselling and mental health workshops which literally saves lives!
As a rider I am funding my own training program and costs associated with the ride.
Your contribution to me helps me raise the $5000 target set for each rider.
All donations are received with a deep felt thank you.
Please be proud to to know that you are making a difference to the mental health of West Australian young people.
