Day One: Coastal 2021
Day one for the Coastal peloton saw riders cycle 129 kilometres from Albany to Walpole, where the riders will stay overnight at the Tree Top Motel and Bayside Villas.
The morning included a royal police escort out of Albany, and our annual visit to North Albany Senior High School (NASHS), which was also attended by Youth Focus CEO Arthur Papakotsias, Chair Dean Hely, and Mayor Dennis Wellington.
The NASHS student band played Pink’s ‘So What’ on arrival and had all the riders and support crew dancing – an incredible, upbeat experience for the Coastal peloton’s first stop.
After a touching Welcome to Country and hearing from Youth Focus CEO and the Albany Mayor, David Smyth of Team Euroz Hartleys delivered a heartfelt presentation about his daughter’s journey to mental wellness.
The second school visit for the day was Denmark Senior High School, where Malcolm Doig of Team Detail shared his family’s mental health experiences and the importance of regular exercise for maintaining mental health and wellbeing.
