This is my first time on the Ride for Youth, a 700 km cycling challenge from Albany to Perth over 4 days to raise awareness and money for Youth Focus, a service that provides much needed mental health services for young people across Western Australia.
There are few among us who have not been touched by mental illness affecting the lives of young people we love and care for.
The suicide on a young man, a neighbour's son who had grown up with my own children, and who as a family we loved, brought home in a painfully real way the tragedy of youth suicide, and the need to do much, much more to support our young people as they navigate the transition to adulthood.
So it's a great cause ... and worthy of taking up the challenge of 4.30 am starts 3 mornings a week to train in the company of fantastic people who share the same motivation and values.
