I will be back for my third Ride in 2020, cycling from Albany to Perth and raising money to support Youth Focus.
My peloton and I will stop at a number of local schools, where we talk to students about mental health and the help available, with riders often sharing their own personal stories.
The money you donate goes towards providing professional, free and unlimited counselling services to young people through Youth Focus.
I have lived with anxiety and depression from a young age. As a child and adolescent, I experienced high levels of social anxiety which made me feel trapped, isolated, and misunderstood. I didn't understand what I was feeling, which led to a lot of negative self-talk and lashing out in anger when I was at home.
It wasn't until I was a young adult that I first sought professional support. I finally gained a vocabulary to explain what I was feeling and the understanding that I could be helped. It was a huge relief.
By speaking at the schools, we open up the discussion on mental health with young people, and let them know that help is available.
Youth Focus can provide that help.
Please support my ride and Youth Focus.
