After a year off the bike it's time to get serious for my 11th Hawaiian Ride for Youth.
Whilst my wife Annette and I appreciated the additional sleep ins last year - my waist line didn't.
So it is great to have started training again and I'm wanting to get fit, assist new and past riders complete the journey whilst having a load of fun. I'm absolutely blessed to be welcomed back and be a part of this wonderful community raising funds to keep Youth Focus going.
What keeps me going is the friends I have made and want to catch up with, fitness and the memory of a great mate lost in my late 20's to suicide which is still raw to this day and the mental struggles he was going through was something which was totally foreign to me at the time. Thankfully with education from Youth Focus, Life Line, Beyond Blue, Black Dog the issue is front of mind for most people but there is so much additional work to be done so that these incidents are not repeated.
All riders are required to pay $1,600 to cover their expenses on the Ride. This means every dollar you contribute to my fundraising or to the Key Residential Team account, goes directly to Youth Focus to help young people at risk of suicide, depression and self-harm. Throughout the number of rides I’ve done, my involvement with fundraising and in projecting awareness for the cause, it is clear that the services offered by Youth Focus are necessary, ongoing and vital to the young people who reach out to them. Sadly, each year sees more need and therefore more funds to be raised to assist as many of our youth as possible.
Please give generously or even a little to show you care and my sincere appreciation to many of you, for your continued support every year to this essential cause.
