2020 Spirit of the Ride | Winners

Michele Thorp – Team Murdoch University

Michele signed up for the 2020 Ride to honour the memory of her late husband and with zero riding experience.

She is now comfortable riding 130kms through the Perth hills, with her late husband, Paul, as a constant source of inspiration for Michele throughout her journey. Michele also rides for all the youth dealing with big issues in their lives, much like her own children had to following the loss of their father.

Michele has been described by her teammates as compassionate, fearless and dedicated to the cause.

Congratulations Michele, your Ride journey has been nothing short of inspirational.

Xaviar Ullrich – Team Budget Car & Truck Rental

Xaviar’s commitment to the cause has been unwavering throughout this experience. His training attendance was excellent and any missed sessions were supplemented with watt bike training. He was also one of the riders who smashed their fundraising goal of $5,000 very early on and continues to fundraise. To date, Xaviar has raised over $25,000 for Youth Focus – a phenomenal achievement.

Even though he didn’t get to complete his first Ride Week, Xavier took the initiative to complete the 500+ kilometres that he would have covered during the week of his own accord.

Xavier also planned to present at a school on the Central peloton during Ride Week, to share his own very personal story about overcoming adversity. He is a strong believer in the power of honesty and discussion – two elements that were key to his recovery.

Xaviar’s journey has inspired him to study counselling at Notre Dame University and he is looking forward to supporting other people through similar struggles.

Congratulations Xaviar. Thank you for your strong commitment to the cause and for sharing your story with us!
