Participating in 2018 was a huge undertaking for this rookie rider, my ultimate BHAG! It became one of my greatest personal achievements, and my experience of Ride Week was unforgettable. When something is so genuinely epic, repeating it hardly seems necessary let alone worth it. However it IS both necessary and worth it and that is exactly why I am signing up for my second Ride.
Tragically suicide remains the leading cause of death for young people under the age of 25. In WA at least one young person is lost to suicide each week, whilst thousands quietly suffer the despair that anxiety, depression and self-harm brings to their lives. I am riding in the hope of making a difference.
The Ride raises funds for Youth Focus, an independent, for-purpose organisation that provides free, professional mental health services and programs to WA youth and their families. I am committing to once again train 3 times a week for 6 months, riding 7,000km so that in March 2019 I can ride 700km in 4.5 days. It’s all about raising awareness about mental health whilst supporting Youth Focus to continue to provide the life-changing services they offer. Getting fit and having fun is the bonus!
I have the support of my family, and would really appreciate your support too. We can’t all be Riders, but we can all help to make a difference. Thank you.
