It's no secret that I can't ride to save myself, but by riding in the Hawaiian Ride for Youth I will be making a contribution to saving young lives from suicide.
As the former CEO of Youth Focus, I know all-too-well the alarming and unacceptable statistics about youth mental illness and suicide. And I also know that every statistic is a person: someone with a family, friends, schoolmates or workmates. The ripple effect throughout our communities of the impact of suicide is profound.
We need to do better and we must do better.
Youth Focus really does makes a positive and lasting difference to its young clients. Around 3,500 Western Australian youth access the service each year completely free of charge.
I am striving to raise $5,000 to assist the vital work of Youth Focus. All the costs of putting me on the Ride - insurance, accommodation, training and so on - have been paid by myself, so please know that your donation will go directly to helping young people when and where they need it most. Thank you.
