I have been involved in the Hawaiian Ride for Youth for a number of years, a charity in support of Youth Focus and their efforts in preventing suicide and depression in our young people. In fact 2019 will be my eighth year involved with this ride. Many people ask why do you keep doing it.
On the one hand there is the personal benefit of keeping fit doing the training, maintaining a network of close friends with a great bunch of like-minded riders and of course getting to spending one of the best weeks of the year riding your bike!
But the overwhelming reason is a sense of continued desire to support Youth Focus's efforts helping the youth of WA with their mental health and raising awareness of the issues they face. Sadly suicide is the leading cause of death for people aged under 25 and this is something I am passionate about in reducing.
Each rider is required to pay $1,500 which goes towards to the cost of the ride, so that all funds raised go to Youth Focus, and each rider is also required to raise a minimum of $5,000.
Many family, friends and colleagues have provided their support over the past 7 years and your continuing support is greatly appreciated!
