This is my first year doing the Ride, which will involve several hundred hours of training, leading to a ride of several hundred kilometres over five days, during which we will stop at high schools and open up the conversation about depression, suicide and self harm with the students.
I think that openness and awareness about mental health is extremely important in recognising the symptoms of depression and reducing the stigma of the disease that can stop some people from asking for help.
The money we raise will go to providing counsellors and support for young people struggling with depression, particularly in rural and remote areas support networks are most lacking.
I am proud to be joining the ride this year, and I'm looking forward to the physical and mental challenge ahead, and being part of a great and supportive community.
