After a 10 year hiatus, I’m finally back on the bike to undertake the Hawaiian Ride for Youth and raise funds for the prevention of youth suicide and self-harm.
Having a young family and being involved with the ride for over 12 years as a rider and support crew member, it is a cause that is very close to my heart. This will be my third year as a rider and I have already started the early morning training, up at 4:40 am three times a week and will cover 7,000 km in training alone before embarking on the 700 km journey from Albany to Perth.
This time around will be a truly family affair, riding with my father Phil (15th and final ride), my sister Dannielle (3rd ride), my cousin Brett (2nd ride) and his wife Jenelle (1st ride). The 2018 route will be taking us from Albany to Perth on 20-24 March via Walpole, Pemberton, Busselton, and Mandurah.
As a team we are required to fundraise a minimum of $25,000, all of which will go directly towards the Youth Focus charity. Youth Focus is a WA-based not-for-profit organisation that works with young people aged 12-25 to help them overcome issues associated with depression, anxiety, self-harm and suicidal thoughts. They provide free, unlimited and professional face-to-face counselling and other mental health services.
With suicide being the biggest killer of young Australians, accounting for more deaths of young persons than car accidents, Youth Focus provides extremely important services to the WA community.
I make a personal contribution of $1,500 that covers my training, food and accommodation expenses, so all donations go directly to Youth Focus and not one dollar is wasted. If you would like to make a contribution to this very worthy cause, please head to the link below:
Or alternatively, our team will be arranging several fundraising events throughout the year. If you would like further information on these events, please let me know and I will forward on the details as they are confirmed.
Thank you for your support.
