Day Two: Mid West Route

Go Back

After a well-earned rest at the lovely Morowa Hotel, a top quality dinner and breakfast from the Everlasting guesthouse, a massage and a few laughs – the 43 riders and nine support crew were ready to head off bright and early Wednesday morning to try to beat the heat and complete the 135km journey to Dalwallinu.

After a physically and emotionally demanding first day the riders and support crew settled into a comfortable groove and started opening up windows of conversation with each other about their lifelong journey and what brought them to the saddle that day on the Mullewa-Wubin road. Much of this focused on the impact of mental illness on their lives and their loved ones, their philosophies on cultural change regarding mental illness and mental health, and their commitment to making this route one of the most sought after routes in connecting with communities in great need of additional access to support.

The last two days has shown all riders and support crew the need for continued commitment in fundraising to allow Youth Focus the capacity to provide additional support to all places along this Midwest route. There have been dreams of a time in the near future where there is a Youth Focus presence in all of the communities along this route. It has lit a fire in the belly of many riders to continue to raise funds for this vital cause this year and for years and decades into the future. All of it to provide equality in access to support.

Today’s theme: as long as my legs will carry me – I will ride for Youth Focus to support this cause.

The riders are eagerly awaiting a whole-of-community forum this evening to discuss mental health, suicide and to spread the word of Youth Focus – to CONNECT with those around you, and with additional support when required.
