Day Three: Mid West Route

Go Back

The whole of the Mid West crew were on a high for the third consecutive day of triple figure riding – knocking off another 136km with ease. This group of trailblazers were so excited after the soaring success of the first ever community forum event hosted in Dalwallinu the night before.

A great community turnout, and terrific barbecue cooked by local community members heard Hawaiian Ride for Youth Chair, Bruce Fielding provide a history of the unparalleled financial and social impact of the Ride over the last 15 years, then heard from first time riders Paul Larsen and Mick Aviet about the reasons for their emotional investment in the Ride. A shared vision of hope, better access to care and support was celebrated by all. The Dalwallinu Shire was pleased to generously present a cheque to the group – which signified the beginning of a new partnership together. All in attendance shared many stories together well after event closure and are all eagerly awaiting the 365 days until it can be done again.

Conditions remained relatively kind to the group – who though a little fatigued were glad to arrive at New Norcia and do their best efforts to dodge the haunted house. Most are likely to sleep right through any ghost scares ready for the first Hawaiian Ride for Youth visit to Northam Senior High School tomorrow morning.
