Back in April 2007 I was invited to Kings Park one Saturday morning and witnessd the return to Perth of 40 riders who had ridden from Albany to Perth to raise funds for Youth Focus. I was moved by the event and inspired by the fact that a small group could raise over $500,000 towards the prevention of youth suicide and self harm in WA.

After 37 years of not putting foot to pedal I began to train for the same event the following year. A tough assignment but in the end very rewarding. Having three teenagers I was very aware of the stresses that our youth go through in their journey to discover their identity and to adulthood.

I completed the ride in 2008 and then decided to have a rest and then last year I decided to come back. With the support of our own RBS Morgans Perth team and sponsorship I began the arduous training for the 2012 ride. This time the training has been easier having now put over 7,000ks into my legs I am looking forward to the big ride at the end of March, helping a great cause and enjoying the comradery of my fellow riders.
