This is my second of what I hope to be many Rides for Youth.
As the proud father of 6 children aging from 14 to 28, Barb and I have seen almost everything a teenager can throw at you. We are however very lucky that we have not had to deal with the traumas that some families face through teenage depression, mental challenges and possibly worse.
I have however, as have many riders, been touched by suicide through the death of a brother and even after 20 years, the grief is still there. I doubt there are many people who can honestly say they do not know of someone who has been touched in some way by a suicide.
I found my first ride to be one of the most memorable and rewarding experiences of my life, and was thrilled to be asked to speak to a group of students at Halls Head Community College. I think there were tears in an eye or two when a young boy asked "how do I contact Youth Focus?". I can't imagine how tough that would have been for that guy to stand up in front of his mates that way.
Hopefully through the money we raise and our presence at the schools we can make a real difference to someone's life.
