Occupation: Chartered Accountant
Years Participated: 2011, 2012 (hopefully)
For a long time I’ve practiced the philosophy that a money-grubbing profession like accountancy needs to be balanced by doing something altruistic...so roles in Rotary and a couple of not-for-profit organisations have resulted. I’m also a bit of an exercise junky so the Ride is a perfect combination for me. Other interests are running (shorter distances & slower times these days!) and scuba diving.
2011 was an amazing experience for me. Learning to ride in a peleton, the training and completing the Ride were achievements but the real experience was the interaction with the 1,000+ young people we met at the various schools we presented to along the way. They really get what we're doing and that just emphasised the reality of it for me.
I’m the proud father of two young adults who are both going well in the world but my extended family has had more than its share of the impact of depression in youth – it’s just heart-breaking to see great young people struggling to keep their lives on track and not knowing what you can do to help.
Youth Focus is an outstanding organisation that is making a significant impact on our community and is well worth the support. The accountant in me says that donating to Youth Focus is like making an investment that will pay off handsomely in the future. The human in me says that youth is our future and we can’t do enough to secure that future. Either way, get on board and come along for the Ride.
Thanks for your support.
