Four days down, one to go! The Mid West crew has spent the day pondering their position four days in. There is an excitement to arrive at Kings Park and reconnect with family, and also relief from the gruelling physical challenge that comes with five consecutive days of riding. However, there is also a strong sense of connection with each other, a desire for it to keep going and a reluctance to end it so soon. Ultimately, this reluctance comes from a connection to a common cause, from close bonds and friendships and from a sense of contributing to the wider community.
There were some challenges on the road today with road works, fatigue setting in and a deadline to get to Northam Senior High school for a presentation. However, "Friday pie day" made things much better. And so did the school presentation from first time rider Barry, which was followed by dozens of questions from the closely engaged year 12 students. It seems Youth Focus has recruited some keen followers and also future riders in years to come. Well done to all the staff and students at Northam SHS who warmly welcomed Youth Focus and the Ride into their school for the first time.
One more evening of laughs and stories to be shared - with that mixed awareness that tomorrow is the last day of the groundbreaking Mid West peloton.
